Mo Muse Shares 'Pearly Gates' Feat. Syco Yusuf

Pearly Gates the latest offering from Mo Muse, an ode to the inner city suburbs of Auckland and in particular the migrant dominated metropolis of Mt. Roskill where Muse spent most of his childhood. Teaming up with his childhood friend Syco Yusuf on a somber piano driven instrumental produced by “Joaocoolwitit”,

Pearly Gates dances between feelings of hopelessness and simultaneous triumph. It’s also one of the first times Muse explores his vocal range, as exercised in the melodic hook that stays with the listener long after the track is finished. In true Mo Muse fashion, however, the bars remain; brash, direct, confrontational and perhaps alluding to a glimpse of what life could have been had he been dealt a different set of cards growing up in the inner cities of Auckland, where only a few are guaranteed to see past their respective area codes.

For Syco Yusuf, Pearly Gates is a coming-of-age experience, transitioning from the colourful and often wild kid on the block to a certified “OG”. Directed and edited by Tom Grut in Film noir aesthetic and stark lighting effects, the visuals range from drill influenced group shots, claustrophobic close-ups, and summit shots of Mt. Roskill and wider Auckland.

For Mo Muse, a track like Pearly Gates was a long time coming.
