Four Things You Didn't Know About Sean Kingston

Kisean Anderson, better known by his stage name Sean Kingston, is a Jamaican-American singer, songwriter, and rapper who first broke into the music scene in 2007. Since then, Sean has released a number of chart-topping hits including, “Beautiful Girls” “Beat It” and “Take You There.” Though he’s established a loyal fan base for many years, here are some things you might not know about Sean Kingston.

4. His Music Career Started On MySpace.

Sean Kingston’s life completely changed when he asked to borrow a friend’s laptop to begin showcasing his music on MySpace. In addition to uploading his songs on the popular social media platform, Sean also contacted several music producers to listen to his music. One producer in particular —J.R. Rotem—claims that Sean would email him three times a day on MySpace with new songs. Finally, J.R. gave in and gave Sean his first shot in the music business. “He had a real distinct sound,” Rotem told Reggaeville. “I’ve worked with some of the best and I don’t see why Sean can’t grow to be one of them. His potential is limitless.”

3. He Had A Tough Childhood.

Sean experienced a lot of rough times while growing up in Florida. At the age of 15, he had to witness his mother and sister go to jail. He also had a run-in with the law and was charged for breaking and entering at the age of 11. "I've been through a lot. I did 21 days in jail, been to boot camp, got sent to Jamaica, slept in cars with my family; I had a rough life,” Sean once told Artist Direct. But instead of letting his hardships keep him down, Sean used it as motivation to jumpstart his music career.

2. He Credits Ice Cube And Slick Rick As His Musical Influences.

In addition to singing, Sean also has a passion for rap. As a young boy, Sean often listened to Ice Cube and Slick Rick to get inspiration for his own music. “I graduated from singing, and started picking up rapping from listening to Ice Cube and Slick Rick,” Sean told Artist Direct.

1. He’s A Survivor.

Back in 2011, Sean was the victim of a near-fatal jet ski accident that resulted in the singer suffering from a fractured wrist, broken jaw, and water in his lugs. Fortunately, Sean managed to make a full recovery.
